WORLD PREMIERE: KITKATCLUB – KINKS OF BERLIN Launches in Thessaloniki — International Premiere at CPH:DOX

Philipp Fussenegger’s new feature documentary premieres at the 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, followed by its international premiere at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen.

A major stage for a Berlin night universe:
KITKATCLUB – KINKS OF BERLIN celebrates its world premiere at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (March 5–15, 2026).

Only days later, the film will have its international premiere at CPH:DOX (March 11–22, 2026), one of the world’s leading festivals for artistic documentary cinema.

A Film About Freedom, Shame, and Transformation

Shot over four years, the film offers an intimate look into a space that normally resists documentation: the KitKatClub in Berlin.

Filmed entirely in black and white and without voice-over narration, the documentary approaches its protagonists through observation and proximity. It captures transformations in front of mirrors, negotiations of consent, conversations about identity — and the fragile tension between performance and vulnerability.

What begins as a portrait of a legendary club unfolds as a cinematic experience about community, shame, and the freedom to become someone else — if only for a night.

Two Major International Platforms for Documentary Cinema

The Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival is one of Europe’s most respected showcases for documentary filmmaking, presenting bold and innovative works each year.

CPH:DOX in Copenhagen is internationally renowned for its strong curatorial focus on formally ambitious and artistically driven documentaries. The selection positions KITKATCLUB – KINKS OF BERLIN within the global conversation on contemporary nonfiction cinema.

“A Family of the Night”

At the heart of the film are individuals navigating between everyday life and their nocturnal personas — drag performers, BDSM couples, founders, and seekers.

KITKATCLUB – KINKS OF BERLIN is not a scene report. It is a time capsule. A snapshot of a place that has become a projection surface for freedom.

“It’s a family,” says director Philipp Fussenegger. “A family of the night.”

Further festival screenings and international dates will be announced soon.
