ABOUT

Originally founded as a film collective, funfairfilms has evolved into a boundary-pushing, award-winning film production company operating between Austria and Germany.

Led by Austrian writer, director, and producer Philipp Fussenegger, funfairfilms stands for radical cinematic authorship, artistic independence, and uncompromising storytelling. We do not follow trends — we confront them. We create films that challenge systems, question identities, and explore the cultural fault lines of our time.

Our work lives at the intersection of art, politics, sexuality, and technology. We are interested in outsiders, subcultures, power structures, and the fragile architecture of intimacy in a rapidly transforming world.

We collaborate internationally, think cinematically, and produce fearlessly.

Selected Works & Achievements

In 2016, Henry received the FIRST STEPS Award for Best Mid-Length Film. The production was nominated for the Austrian Film Award 2017 as Best Short Film and became part of the Goethe-Institute’s South America tour.

In Spring 2016, we shot the pilot Geld spielt keine Rolex for the comedy series Die Schilehrer (“The Ski Teachers”). The episode premiered at the Hof International Film Festival in 2017, where it became an audience favorite and sparked public debate in Austria.

In 2018, our co-production Main Man (Bester Mann), created in collaboration with the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, premiered at the 39th Max Ophüls Prize Festival, where it won the Jury Prize for Best Mid-Length Film. The film was nominated for the Austrian Film Award 2019 and screened at numerous international festivals.

In 2021, the first feature-length documentary I Am The Tigress was completed. Directed by Philipp Fussenegger in co-direction with Dino Osmanovic, the film presents a deeply intimate and uncompromising portrait of bodybuilder Tischa “The Tigress” Thomas.

Through a radically personal and emotionally immersive approach, the documentary crafts a powerful exploration of strength and vulnerability, as well as discrimination and empowerment. Internationally acclaimed, the film received multiple awards and was widely praised for its unflinching intimacy.

In 2024, Teaches of Peaches, directed by Philipp Fussenegger and Judy Landkammer, celebrated its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival (Panorama). The documentary portrays Canadian musician Peaches (Meryl Nisker) and received the prestigious Teddy Award for Best Documentary Film, as well as the Panorama Audience Award.
